Governor George Pataki tapped Robert Douglass, chairperson of the Alliance for Downtown New York, for the last remaining post on the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation board of directors Monday.
His appointment fills the 16-member board, which was created in 2001 to oversee the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site.
Douglass, 74, has served as chairperson of the Downtown Alliance since its inception in 1995. He also serves as chairperson of the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Association, a 90-member business association, that sponsored the formation of the Alliance, which manages Lower Manhattan’s Business Improvement District. He was secretary to Governor Nelson Rockefeller and a Port Authority commissioner in the 1970s.
One face on the L.M.D.C. board will be particularly familiar to Douglass, Carl Weisbrod, whom Douglass hired to be president of the Alliance from 1995 until this summer, when Weisbrod left to head Trinity Church’s real estate division.
