Saluting the fleet, all week
Since 1984 New York City has welcomed vessels from the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard for a week of celebration in honor of their service to the country. This year’s Fleet Week was held from Wed., May 27 to Tues., May 31 and included ceremonies paying tribute to the commitment of the sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as demonstrations and displays of combat maneuvers. In addition to honoring the service members, the week is a hit with residents and tourists who relish the chance to grab a photo with the sailors or tour some of the vessels for an up-close-and-personal look.
