One person with one good “ah-ha” moment can change the world. Now, it’s too late to be the one who came up with the great name (and the even better idea) that is “Lesbians Who Tech” — but as for joining the effort, you’re right on time. Founded in 2012 as a way to bring together queer women and allies in all area of the tech industry, this San Francisco-based summit is making its NYC debut with four days of workshops, talks, and panels.
Led by queer women who represent the next generation of technical leaders, joined by the people who’ve paved the way, the conference addresses topics such as reframing the issue of diversity in tech, and using tech to support global LGBTQ activists. There’s also a session where entrepreneurs pitch apps to prospective investors, a “Queer Women Who Code” panel, and talks on mobile commerce technology, censorship, and controlling your personal brand. The event ends with an afterparty, at which facial recognition will be achieved without the assistance of software.
