Although most area shops shut down when the blackout struck, others stayed open for varying amounts of time, trying to make the best of the blackout, both before and after night fell. At Mud Honey, on Sullivan St. between Houston and Prince Sts., right, barbers moved outside right after the power failed and cut customers’ tresses on the sidewalk. At Crif Dogs on St. Mark’s Pl., above, owner Kerry Kramer brought a portable generator from his home, and the place served people frankfurters into the night.
