The eastbound M22 bus route returned to Chambers St. Sun., Aug. 2 following the completion of the Chambers St. reconstruction project. The project, which began in the summer of 2010, was arranged to repair water and sewer infrastructure below Chambers St.
Other improvements to the area include new streetlights, granite curbs and trees. The project was slated for completion in 2013, but after Superstorm Sandy and unexpected repairs to a gas main the project was extended through 2015.
The eastbound M22, which connects Battery Park City and Tribeca to Chinatown and the Lower East Side, was rerouted to Warren St. between North End Ave. and Broadway during the construction.
News of the change seems to be seeping in slowly. This past week, few people waited along Chambers to catch the bus.
