Man sought for hitting victim with hammer on Chelsea street: NYPD

Police are looking for a suspect who assaulted a 72-year-old man on a Chelsea street.

According to the NYPD, at 3:28 p.m. on May 3 the victim was walking in front of 255 West 23rd St. when he was approached by an unknown man. The man proceeded to push the victim and hit him in the leg with a hammer.

The suspect then fled the scene heading eastbound on 23rd Street. The victim was treated at the scene by EMS.

The NYPD released photos of the suspect, who they describe as a man with a medium complexion, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hat, blue surgical mask, green jacket, dark-colored pants, and black sneakers.
