Martin Brodsky, a West Village resident for 35 years and a stalwart member of the West Village Committee and the Perry St. Block Association, died suddenly on June 2 at the age of 70.
He suffered a heart attack while walking on Sixth Ave. at W. Fourth St. and an Emergency Medical Service team tried but failed to resuscitate him, his wife, Sharon, said.
Born in New York City, Martin Brodsky was a graduate of Bronx High School of Science and earned an engineering degree from the City College of New York. He was employed for more than 30 years by the Board of Education Division of Buildings.
He was a member of the Federation to Preserve the Greenwich Village Waterfront and Great Port and active in housing issues.
“He loved the Village and worked to preserve it,” said his wife.
“He was always there for us at every activity,” said Peter Falk, president of the West Village Committee.
Burial was June 6 in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, in Fairview, N.J.
The Perry St. Block Association and the West Village Committee will hold a memorial dinner in his honor on Mon. Sept. 19 at St. John’s-in-the-Village parish hall, 4 Waverly Pl.
