We’re getting a windy Christmas — not a white one.
Christmas Day weather in New York will be defined by gusts up to 45 mph, not snow, according to the National Weather Service.
While snowflakes fell on the city briefly Monday morning, starting around 5:30, there was no accumulation, NWS meteorologist David Stark said.
“Basically, what we’re going to be dealing with now is just a very windy and chilly day,” Stark said. “We’re not expecting any additional precipitation — no more chance of any snow.”
Temperatures during the partly sunny day are expected to peak at 44 degrees, but the wind chill factor will make it feel more like it’s between 25 and 30 degrees. They’lll dip to a low of 20 at night, which, with the wind, will feel like anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees.
“The sub-freezing temperatures will last — we’ll not see the 32-degree mark all week,” National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Morrin said. “These are the kind of temperatures that will make you start worrying about your pipes.”
Those with hopes of a white Christmas — maybe we’ll get one next year.
