NYPD Bronx cop who called out Mayor Bill de Blasio in YouTube clip suspended, police say

A Bronx officer caught on video blaming Mayor Bill de Blasio for forcing him to hand out summonses has been suspended, police said on Tuesday.

In a YouTube video posted on Saturday, the uniformed cop tells the driver of the car he can blame the mayor for his ticket. The encounter took place in the 46th Precinct, which includes Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mount Hope.

“I don’t know if you voted for him or not,” he tells the man. “I don’t live in the city, I wouldn’t have voted for him because this is what he wants. He wants us to give out summonses. Understand that.”

The driver tells the officer he understands.

“I feel you. This is a hard job,” he says, as he takes the paper violation.

It was not immediately clear what the man was issued a summons for. The video has since been taken down.

Since his election, de Blasio has pushed his “Vision Zero” safety initiative. In January, he said 2015 had the fewest traffic deaths in the city’s history.

Citywide, a total of 231 people were killed in crashes last year — 26 fewer than in 2014.
