They celebrated with blueberry muffins in October, and on Nov. 21, P.S. 150 students showed off their spatial relationship skills by forming a human blue ribbon to celebrate the school’s national award for academic excellence from the U.S. Dept. of Education. The small Tribeca school in Independence Plaza was the only school in Manhattan and one of six across the city to win a National Blue Ribbon Award. Principal Jenny Bonnet, students and parents braved the cold to welcome new District 2 Superintendent Bonnie Laboy for the celebration. Students sang “A Brand New Day”— parents may never forget the city’s failed attempt last year to throw the school out of the neighborhood. Gov. Andrew Cuomo also sent students a letter of congratulations. Alyssa Polack, a former principal, wrote “Miss this gem of a place!!!!”on the school’s Facebook page.
