Bullets hit two A man, 23, and a woman, 29, were standing on Columbia St. in front of the Baruch Houses shortly before 1 a.m. Tues., Jan. 1, when shots were fired, hitting the woman in the stomach and the man in the leg. An unidentified gunman fired the rounds for no apparent reason from the area in front of the DeWitt Reformed Church at 280 Rivington St., police said. The victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious but stable condition.
Shot exiting cab A man was shot in front of 484 E. Houston St. in the Lillian Wald Houses as he was getting out of a cab at 4:12 a.m. Tues., Jan. 1, police said. The victim phoned 911 on his cell phone and was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Drunk drivers Police at a D.W.I. checkpoint at the northeast corner of W. Houston and West Sts. arrested two drivers for driving while intoxicated 10 minutes apart during the early hours of Sat., Dec. 29. One man driving a black 2005 Infinity was stopped at 2:50 a.m. and tested .096 in the field alcohol test. The legal limit is .08. At 3 a.m. the driver of a gray 2006 Mercury was stopped and registered .145.
The previous weekend, another driver was arrested shortly after midnight Sun., Dec. 23, in his red 2003 Audi stopped at a red light on Seventh Ave. at W. 10th St. Police recovered one empty beer bottle, one half-empty and three full, unopened beer bottles from the passenger-side floor and the driver tested .138.
L.E.S. shooting Police responded to a report of shots fired at 5:12 a.m. Tues., Jan. 1, in front of 350 Madison St. in the Vladeck Houses complex and found an injured man who refused to say anything about the incident. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Car break-in A man who parked his car in front of a Silver Towers building at 110 Bleecker St. at 2:30 a.m. Sun., Dec. 23, returned 10 minutes later and found the passenger-side door had been popped open and various items stolen from the car, police said.
2 theft-uccinos to go A 19-year-old patron of the Starbucks at 510 Sixth Ave. at W. 14th St. left her bag at her seat unattended for a minute or so while she greeted a friend at 4:50 p.m. Sun., Dec. 23, and 10 minutes later discovered that her wallet with $225, her driver’s license, bank card and school ID was gone. Another patron, 26, had her bag stolen at the same location on Thurs., Dec. 27, sometime between 5:50 p.m. and 6:20 p.m., police said.
Bags gone A woman patron of Gonzalez & Gonzalez, the club at 625 Broadway, lost her bag to a thief on Sat., Dec. 29, after she left it unattended for 10 minutes at 2 a.m. while she went to the restroom. A woman shopping at DSW Shoes, 40 E. 14th St., on Friday afternoon Dec. 28 had her bag stolen sometime after 4 p.m., police said. A woman patron of Waverly Inn, 16 Bank St., had her clutch bag with credit cards and her cell phone stolen after she left it unattended at the bar sometime after 11 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 24. A woman patron of Max Brenner — Chocolate by the Bald Man restaurant, 841 Broadway, had her handbag, which she had placed on the back of her chair, stolen sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight on Sat., Dec. 22.
A man who had just paid for his drinks at The Hangar, 115 Christopher St., at about 11:15 p.m. Fri., Dec. 21, discovered 15 minutes later that his wallet had been stolen. The day after Christmas, his bank told him that he had $100 in unauthorized charges on his debit card.
A patron of Pieces, 6 Christopher St., told police his bag with his wallet and cell phone was stolen from his table while he was talking with friends between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 21. The victim called his cell phone and the man who had stolen it said, “I know you and I need a job,” and hung up. The victim then canceled the service.
