Bouncer shot
A bouncer at Sing Sing Karaoke, 81 Avenue A near E. Fifth St., broke up a fight between two groups of men in front of the place during the early hours of Sat., May 10, but some of them returned around 4 a.m., shot the bouncer in the chest and fled. Police said that two Hispanic men were seen fleeing the scene on bicycles.
The bouncer, 37, identified in a Daily News report as Carlos Salome, was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center where he was said to be in stable condition. There was no arrest, police said.
Sing Sing, a popular Japanese-style sing along bar, attracts several celebrities, including Cameron Diaz, among its patrons.
Bagel shop theft
Eloy Perez, 19, of E. 111th St., was arrested on Fri., May 2, and charged with stealing $12,000 from a safe in the bagel store at 263 First Ave. near 15th St. three days earlier, a spokesperson for the Manhattan district attorney said.
Perez is charged with making his way into the office of the store at 11:45 a.m. Thurs., April 29, opening the safe with a screwdriver and making off with the money. An employee spotted the suspect as he was fleeing and called police, who arrested Perez three days later.
Followed home
Just after entering his second-floor apartment at 264 W. 15th St. at 3:35 a.m. Sun., May 4, a Chelsea man was followed in by two men, one of whom was masked and the other wielding a black handgun, police said. The man without the mask said, “We’re not here to hurt you. We only want the money. Open the safe.” The victim complied and the robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The masked robber never uttered a word and police think the victim might have recognized him. The surveillance camera at the building’s entrance had been broken since a burglary six weeks ago and police believe the two incidents might be related.
Out for blood
The 10th Precinct is conducting a blood drive at the stationhouse, at 230 W. 20th St. between Seventh and Eighth Aves., on Thurs., May 22, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The public as well as police will be welcome.
Shots at car
A Brooklyn man, 21, was sitting in the back seat of a car moving east on 16th St. between Seventh and Eighth Aves. around 4:30 a.m. Mon., May 5, when an unidentified man ran alongside and fired several shots into the car, police said. The driver of the car and his front-seat passenger got out and fled, but the victim, who remained in the car and was unhurt, refused to identify them, police said.
Burglary spike
Burglaries in the Sixth Precinct, covering the Village between W. 14th and W. Houston Sts. west of Broadway, increased 80 percent during the 28-day period from April 7 to May 4 this year compared to the same period last year, according to New York Police Department statistics reports. The spike in burglaries is also reflected in the year-to-date statistics. There were 72 burglaries from Jan. 1 to May 4 this year, compared to 53 during the same period in 2007, representing a 35.8 percent increase.
Nevertheless, despite the rise in burglary, felony crime in the seven major categories declined by 3.4 percent for the year to date this year compared to last year and declined 21 percent for the 28-day period in 2008 compared to last year.
Steals bag
A thief entered Darling Boutique, a women’s clothing store at 1 Horatio St., at 6 p.m. Mon., May 5, and grabbed the owner’s bag and fled, police said. The owner told police that all her credit cards had unauthorized charges.
Belated charge
A teacher, 61, at City As School, 16 Clarkson St., was given a desk-appearance summons on Mon., May 12, to answer a charge by an administrative school employee that he touched her buttocks when she bent down to pick up some mail on March 28. It was not clear why the victim delayed reporting the incident. The defendant is due to appear in court on June 10.
Wine and medicine
A driver who hit another car from behind shortly after midnight on Sat., May 10, at the northeast corner of Gansevoort and West Sts. smelled of alcohol and told the officer responding to the accident that he had two glasses of wine an hour earlier. The cop noticed a prescription package on the top of the console and the driver told him it was pain medication that he had taken four hours earlier. The man was charged with driving while impaired, even though he tested below the .08 blood-alcohol limit.
D.W.I.
Police at the checkpoint on the northeast corner of West and W. Houston Sts. charged three drivers with driving while intoxicated during the early hours of Sat., May 10. They charged a woman shortly before 1 a.m., a man five minutes later and another man about 15 minutes later. Another driver was charged with D.W.I. after an officer stopped him at 3:25 a.m. the same day, after he made left turns without signaling at Washington and W. 12th Sts. At 12:43 a.m. Tues., May 6, police stopped a driver who failed to obey a stop sign on Ninth Ave. at W. 12th St., and charged him with D.W.I. after he tested .125 on an alcohol sensor.
Laptops gone
A student, 19, told police that her laptop computer was stolen from under her seat in a New York University classroom at 19 University Pl. when she left it for a few minutes around 1:40 p.m. Thurs., May 1. A man who left his laptop computer unattended for a while at 9 p.m. Thurs., May 8, in a booth at Bar 13 on E. 13th St. at University Pl. discovered an hour later that it had been stolen.

Bags were stolen from five women patrons at various lounges in the Sixth Precinct over the past two weeks: on Fri., May 9, at 10:30 p.m. at Spotted Pig, 314 W. 11th St.; Thurs., May 8, at 3 a.m. at Club Cielo, 18 Little W. 12th St.; Mon., May 5, at 10:45 p.m. at Dove Bar, 228 Thompson St.; Sat., May 3, at 11:55 p.m. at Tenjune, 26 Little W. 12th St., and Fri., May 2, at 10 p.m. at Fat Cat, 75 Christopher St.
Menacing knife
Police arrested Sergei Kramtsov, of 222 Lafayette St., near Cleveland Pl. at 12:40 p.m. Tues., April 22, and charged him with menacing a man while wielding a knife and smashing a stone vase outside a restaurant at 218 Lafayette St. The victim fled into the restaurant and locked himself in just as the suspect arrived, with the suspect banging his knife against the window and then breaking the vase. Kramtsov, 41, was freed on $5,000 bail pending a May 21 arraignment for second-degree menacing, fourth-degree weapons possession and criminal mischief, according to a spokesperson for the district attorney.
