Serial-mugger arrests
Sixth Precinct police arrested two suspects around 1 a.m. Tues., Dec. 16, at Abingdon Square in connection with a series of six robberies on Village streets beginning on Nov. 15 and ending on Dec. 4.
Adam Temple, 21, and Anthony Lindsay, 30, both of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, were charged with first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. The suspects were believed to have been involved in at least two or more of the robberies, police said.
In the first incident, at 2:45 a.m. Sat., Nov. 15, a man, 27, and a woman, 25, were robbed after they got out of a cab at the corner of Waverly Place and Bank St. Two suspects, described as black men in their 20s, fled on foot after they forced the couple to give up an undisclosed sum of cash.
The second incident occurred at 2:20 a.m. Tues., Nov. 18, at Seventh Ave. South and W. 11th St., where a man, 30, was attacked by two suspects who pushed him to the ground, demanded his wallet and fled with it.
The third incident was on Thurs., Nov. 20, at 2:10 a.m. when a man, 27, and a woman, 26, were waylaid by two suspects, described as black men in their 20s, who took their wallets and fled.
The fourth incident, at 1:15 a.m. on Tues., Nov. 22, took place in front of 350 W. 14th St. at the corner of Hudson St., where two suspects, described as black men in their 20s, forced a man, 43, to surrender an undisclosed amount of cash.
The fifth incident was at W. Fourth St. and Eighth Ave. at 1 a.m. Mon., Dec. 1, when a single suspect, described as a black man in his 20s, forced a 19-year-old woman to give up an undisclosed amount of cash,
The sixth incident, reported in last week’s edition of The Villager, occurred on Thurs., Dec. 4, at 11:08 p.m. in front of 231 W. 11th St., between Waverly Place and W. Fourth St., where a woman, 25, fought off and pepper-sprayed two assailants, described as black men in their 20s. One of the suspects grabbed a single earring from the victim, before both men fled.
Bank robber
A man entered the Wachovia Bank branch at 463 Broadway at Grand St. shortly after noon on Thurs., Dec., 11, walked up to a teller and announced a robbery, police said. The suspect fled with an undetermined sum of cash, police said.
12,000 bags seized
A week after the city raided and closed down a group of Canal St. counterfeit merchants, the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement and the Police Department raided 15 stalls inside a four-story building at 424 Broadway on Thursday morning Dec. 11.
Armed with a search warrant, agents converged on the building at Howard St. at Broadway at 7:15 a.m. Thurs. Dec. 11 before the start of the business day and seized bogus merchandise with an estimated street value of more than $1 million, according to Jason Post, spokesperson for the Special Enforcement agency.
Enforcement agents filled more than 1,600 large plastic sacks with counterfeit merchandise, including 12,000 handbags and thousands of counterfeit designer labels — not yet affixed to merchandise. The haul included more than 1,000 pairs of designer sunglasses, including Oakley and Chanel, and more than 1,000 pieces of counterfeit jewelry, including Tiffany and assorted counterfeit accessories.
The stalls, seven on the third floor and eight on the fourth floor, are owned as individual commercial condominiums and were ordered to be vacated for various violations.
On Wed., Dec. 3, Special Enforcement agents raided commercial stalls in two buildings on Canal St. between Lafayette and Centre Sts. and seized counterfeit handbags, wallets, jewelry and perfume that filled about 500 large plastic sacks.
‘Yanks’ robber strikes out
A man entered the Bank of America branch at 318 Grand St. at Orchard St. at 2:30 p.m. Wed., Dec. 10, and passed a note to a teller demanding money, police said. He may have gotten nervous, because he left without taking anything. The suspect, described as Hispanic, in his late 30s, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 180 and 200 pounds, was wearing a Yankees hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap with the letters “PR” on the front.
Domestic brute
Police arrested Alexis Guichard, 36, of 222 W. 14th St., and charged him with hitting his girlfriend on the head with a wine bottle, punching and knocking her to the floor and kicking her in their apartment on Tues., Dec. 9. After the assault, the victim fled and asked the building doorman to call 911. Guichard was freed on $15,000 bail bond pending a March 19 court appearance on second- and third-degree assault charges.
