Trash talk
Two sanitation workers hanging out at 2 Bloomfield St. at about 7:10 a.m. on Aug. 3 got into a verbal dispute which escalated to violence, according to police.
One of them started trash talking by calling the other man “a rat” then threw a metal chair, causing a laceration on the 52 year-old victim’s left leg. The perpetrator then refused to go to his office following the incident, according to police. The nature of the dispute remains unknown, according to the police, and was not captured by video surveillance.
The man received four stitches for the injury.
A search of the scene with a sanitation department supervisor did not find the perpetrator but police arrested James Levin, 42, on Aug. 6 and charged him with felony assault.
EMS attack
An FDNY EMS worker was in the midst of her duties at about 5:40 a.m. on Aug. 10 when an interaction with a 23 year-old man went awry in front of 500 La Guardia Pl.
While a police report did not state why, the man struck her with a closed fist causing swelling and bruises to the 24 year-old woman. He then grabbed her collar and forced her to the ground, according to police. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, and NYPD responded by arresting Keith Doyle and charging him with felony assault on a peace officer.
Obstructed getaway
A 56 year-old man was not willing to give up when a NYPD traffic agent sought to tow his car on Aug. 6.
He got into his car as a tow truck prepared to remove it from nearby the Southeast corner of Washington and Gansevoort Sts. at about 8:25 a.m. He then attempted to drive away. It is unclear how far he got or whether he disconnected his automobile from the tow truck, but police nonetheless charged Joseph Safdieh with obstruction of government administration, a misdemeanor.
Watched watch
According to police, between 6:30 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 10, a 22 year-old man invited two women into his apartment at 184 Thompson St.
He took his watch off and placed in on a couch and went onto a balcony. From there he saw his guests flee with his Royal Oak Off Shore Watch. He gave chase and caught up with one woman, who then resisted his effort to retrieve the watch. Police responded and arrested Jacelle Hernandez, 19, and charged her with grand larceny, a felony.
The other suspect remains at large. The watch, valued at $26,000, was not recovered. A police report did not state how the victim knew the suspects.
Thwarted theft
Alert police observed a man trying to make off with a man’s wallet at about 3:15 a.m. on Aug. 9 in front of 328 W. 14. St.
Atkins Caresquero, 33, was arrested and charged with grand larceny, a felony. The Reebok wallet, valued at $20 and $24 in cash were recovered from the suspect. It is unknown what the condition of the 23 year-old victim was at the time of the incident.
Slashed cheek
A man reported in the early morning of Aug. 10 that he was sliced on the left cheek by a razor-wielding man at about 1:52 a.m.
According to police, the incident occurred at a park playground near the Southwest corner of West and W. 10th Sts. The 30 year-old man was taken to Bellevue Hospital and treated for the laceration. Later that day, police arrested Shawn Bettis, 40, and charged him with felony assault.
