Police Blotter: Week of May 26, 2016

VEHICLE VAPORIZES

A thief made off with a brand new Toyota Camry parked on West Broadway in Tribeca last week, cops say.

The gray, 2015-model rental car disappeared from its parking spot at 136 W. Broadway between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. last Monday May 16, according to police.

The driver, who told police that he had both keys to the $23,000 sedan, said he also lost a $145 vape pen, a $50 Swiss Army backpack and a $50 Bosch laser measurer, according to a report.

 DRINKING AT WORK

An apparently disgruntled ex-employee hosted an illicit noontime drinking party at his former workplace in Battery Park City last week, police say.

The Queens man returned to his former workplace at The Black Hound on South End Ave. a week after he had been fired to enjoy a drink or two — but he turned the escapade into a full-blown bash when he invited more than a dozen of his friends to join him, according to police.

Around noon on Sunday May 15, he apparently unlocked the front door to the bar and let in “thirteen or more individuals” without permission, according to a report.

It was not immediately clear how much alcohol the group consumed.

LENS LARCENY

A photographer’s expensive equipment was stolen while he was on assignment in Tribeca, police say.

The victim, from Santa Barbara, California, was shooting a client on Jay St. on Sunday May 22, when he put down his camera bag filled with $3,900 in lenses and accessories on a nearby stoop, and continued to take pictures down the block, according to police.

In addition to the bag and three pricy lenses, the thief also made off with five memory cards, four batteries and a sound recorder, according to a report.

TAXI TROLLS

A cabbie hit a bump in the road last weekend while driving in the Financial District, where he was conned out of a fare and lost his wallet to boot, according to police.

The 51-yearold driver was chauffeuring a couple when a new passenger jumped into his cab at William and Wall Sts. around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday May 21, police say.

When he told the woman he already had passengers, she fled, but not without swiping his wallet first, cops say.

To add insult to injury, the couple used the commotion to leave without paying as well, and the driver later realized his debit card was promptly used at a local convenience store, police say.

REAR WINDOW

A man had more than $1,000 of his stuff stolen out of a black BMW while parked in Tribeca, police say.

The 24-year-old man from Purchase, N.Y., left the rear window to his car open in front of 100 Reade St. around 8:45 p.m. last Thursday May 19, according to police.

When he returned to the car the next morning, a $500 Apple iPad Air, a $250 suit, $150 worth of medication, a $120 of Ray-Ban sunglasses and a $70 briefcase were missing, according to a report.

BAGS BAGGED

A man stole two bags worth a total of $2,340 from a boutique in Soho last week, cops say.

The perp swiped the pricy purses from a shelf at the Saint Laurent store on Greene St. shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday May 15, according to police.
