As seen in this photo from last week, at right, the fireboat stationhouse on the finger pier at Gansevoort Peninsula’s northwest corner is being demolished to make way for a new, modern facility. Waterfront preservationists unsuccessfully pushed to save the old building in some way, such as by relocating it along the shoreline as a museum. During the construction, the fireboat will temporarily be stationed at Pier 40 at W. Houston St.
