Just after noon on Wednesday, two members of the group Rainforests of New York climbed two flagpoles at the southern end of City Hall Park and dropped a banner. They were protesting the city’s use of endangered Amazon rainforest wood for benches in city parks and boardwalks. After remaining aloft for an hour, the pair, Tim Doody (left), 36, of the West Village, and Tim Keating, 50, descended without incident and were arrested. They had planned the protest for the day before Earth Day so the coverage would appear on Earth Day. The city Parks Dept. did not immediately comment.
