A deranged man entered the vestibule of a Chase Bank branch in Midtown Manhattan early Thursday and threw hot coffee in the face of his victim, police said.
The victim, a 42-year-old man, was in the ATM area located on the corner of Eighth Avenue and West 40th Street at around 3:40 a.m. when the random attacker entered and tossed steaming-hot coffee at him.
The 42-year-old suffered burns to the right side of his face, neck and shoulder—while the alleged perpetrator fled the area in an unknown direction, cops said.
EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition.
Police are looking for the suspect who is between 25- and 30-years-old, and about 6-feet-2 inches tall. The suspect has a dark complexion and was last seen wearing a black jacket with red stripes and hood, a dark colored knit cap, black pants and dark colored sneakers. The NYPD released a photo of the man.
Anyone with information on the attack is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477)
