Southbridge senior wards off rape attempt

A female resident was sexually assaulted and robbed in a stairway at 80 Beekman St. in Southbridge Towers on Thurs., Dec. 4, a little bit before 1 p.m., according to police.

The 81-year-old woman told police she and the suspect got into the elevator on the ground floor of her building at Southbridge. When she got off, the man grabbed her using a chokehold and then dragged her to the landing of the staircase, police say. The man rummaged through the woman’s purse and stole $400 that was inside an envelope.

He then started pulling at the woman’s clothing. Police say he exposed himself and demanded a sexual act. The woman told her attacker that she was too old and pushed the suspect away. Police say the man fled and the woman was taken to Lenox Hill HealthPlex.

Police say the suspect is about 20 years old 5 ft. 6” and 170 pounds and was wearing a Cincinnati Reds baseball cap that had a black rim.

Bad hair thefts

A thief apparently takes his hair grooming routine so seriously that he stole $1,445 worth of products from a Financial District Duane Reade last weekend.

Police say the man walked into the Duane Reade at 100 Broadway a little after 11 a.m. on Sat., Dec. 6 and went straight for the hair section. A witness saw the man empty out the entire shelf and alerted a female employee. The employee told police she attempted to confront the suspect at the store’s entrance but he left the store with the items, which included hair dryers, straighteners, curling ironers and hair oil.

Bar thief caught

A Brooklyn woman was hanging out at the Raccoon Lodge Friday night when a man attempted to steal her wallet.

The 31-year-old woman had put her purse and coat on a hook at the Tribeca bar, located at 59 Warren St. She told police that when she was getting ready to pay and leave at 10:45 p.m., she noticed her coat on the floor and her purse were gone. She saw a man leaving the bar with her wallet.

Police say the man was stopped before he could leave the bar and that he had her wallet on him. The man, 24, was arrested and the woman got her wallet back.

Stealthy Soho snatches

A thief got away with $1,105 worth of clothing in a shopping bag that was left unattended at Woolrich, an upscale outdoor clothing store on Sat., Dec. 6.

A Tribeca man, 45, had left his bag on the ground while shopping at Woolrich, 125 Wooster St., at 1:15 p.m. When he turned back around, the man saw that his bag, containing several shirts, was gone. Police say that video shows a suspect snatching the bag and leaving the store.

In a separate Soho crime, a man grabbed two woman’s vests worth almost $3,000, from a display rack at the Ralph Lauren store at 109 Prince St. on Thurs., Dec. 4 around 11 a.m. Two male employees — one 23, the other 25 — told police that the suspect, 5 ft. 9”, took off with the merchandise and headed west on Prince St.
