Ryan Coogler, the fledgling director of the recent Sundance hit “Fruitvale Station,” and the film’s star, Michael B. Jordan, might team up again for a spinoff to the beloved “Rocky” saga.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is in early talks with the duo as well as Sylvester Stallone, who plans to resurrect his acclaimed trademark role for the film, Deadline reports.
"Creed," which would essentially become the seventh installment of the series, would focus on the grandson of Apollo Creed, Rocky’s arch opponent-turned-friend who received a fatal beating in "Rocky IV," according to the report.
Inheriting the skill and fighter instincts of his grandfather, Creed, Jordan’s expected role, seeks out the mentorship of a retired Balboa, who is hesitant to return to the sport. Stallone and Kevin King would reportedly produce the film along with original producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff.
