Royal baby anticipation
The world is keeping a close eye on a London hospital, where Kate Middleton, the dutchess of Cambridge, is in labor with her and Prince William’s first child. The royal couple do not know the gender of the baby, who will be the third in line for the British throne. When the baby is born, it will be announced on a board outside Buckingham Palace.
Cuomo, Bloomberg race on the rapids
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Michael Bloomberg will square off Monday in a whitewater rafting race in the Adirondacks. Cuomo’s inaugural Adirondack Challenge, which included a music and food festival Sunday on Indian Lake, is aimed at drawing attention to and promoting tourism in the region. The race begins at noon.
Anger over Bushwick violence
Some city leaders are gathering Monday at the Bushwick site where five people were shot Saturday to call for an end to gun violence. U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez and City Councilwoman Diana Reyna will be among those attending the 1 p.m. event at Knickerbocker Avenue and Menahan Street. Curtis Peterson, 23, has been charged with the Saturday shootings. The victims are all reportedly in stable condition.
Yankees look to end skid
After losing four of their last five games, the Yankees will look to end their slide Monday as they open a four-game series at the Texas Rangers. The Bombers will have to wait a little longer for Alex Rodriguez’s service. The slugger, who has yet to play in the majors this season after undergoing hip surgery, was slated to return to the lineup Monday, but a strained left quad is delaying his return.
