S.J.P. and Wintour to co-host Obamas at Village fundraiser

BY LORENZO LIGATO | If he’s re-elected, Barack Obama may have more to thank than his lucky stars — namely, Hollywood stars. Several are the famous names who have pledged to support the president’s re-election campaign — from rocker Jon Bon Jovi to Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg, to “Desperate Housewives” diva Eva Longoria.

Now it’s the turn of Golden Globe winner Sarah Jessica Parker, who — along with her husband, Tony Award-winning actor Matthew Broderick — will soon open their Village home to Obama and his wife, Michelle.

The “Sex and The City” star appeared on a 30-second spot during Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards, expressing support for Obama and encouraging the audience to enter a raffle to attend a fundraising soiree with the presidential couple at her home next week.

“O.K., the guy who ended the war in Iraq; the guy who says you should be able to marry anyone you want; the guy who created 4 million new jobs. That guy — President Obama — and his wife Michelle are coming to my house for dinner on June 14,” Parker said in the advertisement. “And I want you to be there too.”

The event will be co-hosted by Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, who recorded her own endorsement video for Obama last week.

Parker — who also solicited donations for the re-election campaign through a letter sent to Obama supporters — participated in the president’s 2008 campaign, when she called undecided voters, and has served on Obama’s Committee on Arts and the Humanities since 2009.

“For me, this election is even more important than 2008,” Parker wrote in the letter. “There is so much at stake this year, and I want to keep doing what I can.”

Last month, Oscar winner George Clooney hosted a campaign fundraiser for Obama at his residence in Los Angeles that raised nearly $15 million.
