Sam Green, a Village resident for 32 years, died at his home on W. 10th St. on June 1 at the age of 59. He was diagnosed with cancer in October, said Sandra Hathaway, a Villager and friend of 20 years.

He made his living as a maker of eyeglass frame models for Zyloware and was a jazz fan, frequenting 55 Club and other Village music venues with friends, Hathaway said.

Born in Uvalde, Texas, the son of Ray and Lois Green, he went to South Texas College in Harlingen. An early marriage ended in divorce.

“He came to the Village in 1975 to visit his brother Johnny and decided to stay,” Hathaway said.

In addition to his brother, Johnny, his son, Dwayne McClaugherty of Texas, also survives. Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker St., was in charge of arrangements.
