A century of flowers
The Gramercy Park Flower Shop at 21st St. and Third Ave. was honored with state and city proclamations last Saturday in honor of its 100th anniversary. On behalf of City Councilmember Margarita Lopez, the city proclamation was presented by Eric Lugo, Lopez’s chief of staff, left, to Tommy Sakas, the third-generation owner of the store, who was joined by Becky Sakas, his wife, and their children, Zoe and Gregory. Sakas received the state proclamation from State Senator Frank Padavan. On Sat., May 15, and Sun., June 13, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., The flower shop will host Kids Day, an interactive event for children to learn firsthand about flower arrangements and gardening. Children will be able to make their own bouquets, which they may then take home. The event is free, but children must register to participate. Call 212-533-0778.
