The new Hotel Gansevoort opened on Ninth Ave. in March, starting things off with a bang by hosting the Scope art show. The 14-story hotel has 187 rooms, with rates starting at over $300 a night. The roof recently opened to the public and whenever there aren’t private parties, anyone can go up to enjoy the view and have a drink. The roof and lower levels have exterior lighting that changes through a range of colors from fuchsia to lime green to yellow to purple and blue. That and its design have caused many Villagers to label its overall appearance as “South Beach.” Another unique feature is a talking revolving door. The hotel was built before the Gansevoort Historic District was designated. At some point not in the too-far-distant future, Ono, a Japanese-style restaurant, plans to open in the hotel.
