The National Arts Club on Gramercy Park South honored Radio Hall of Famer Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, longtime WCBS FM D.J., last Wednesday. Things started off with some excitement, as two of the club’s 15 lovebirds literally flew the coop. The pair escaped their cage and took off in opposite directions, leaving staffers running around the 165-year-old historic Tilden Mansion with nets on 5-foot poles. Talk show host Joe Franklin, an industry pioneer since 1943, on whose show Sammy Davis Jr. and Bill Cosby made their first TV appearances, joked that Moses was his first guest and Cousin Brucie, his mentor. Later in the evening, Aldon James, the National Arts Club’s president, said that “WCBS will regret what they did to Cousin Brucie just as Hermes regrets what they did to Oprah.” Among others in attendance were Sharon Bush, ex-wife of Neil Bush, George W.’s brother, with their daughters, Lauren, a model for Tommy Hilfiger, and her younger sister, Ashley; and Walter Sabo, president of Sabo Media.
