Police have identified a suspect in the vicious anti-gay attack inside a Chelsea restaurant earlier this month, said a law enforcement official with knowledge of the incident.
Police identified 41-year-old Bayna El-Amin Tuesday as the man who allegedly attacked a 25-year-old man inside the Dallas BBQ on Eighth Avenue at 23rd Street. The victim was hit over the head with a chair at about 11 p.m. on May 5th.
Police said El-Amin, who appears to be from the Bronx, has various addresses listed.
The victim refused medical attention. The attack is being investigated as a hate crime.
Shortly after the attack, police released surveillance video of a well-dressed suspect walking into the restaurant. The man appeared to be in a good mood, talking to another man.
