The Tenement Museum wants your vote

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is one of three finalists for the 2005 Sustainable Tourism Award for Preservation. A public online vote will determine the winner. The museum with the highest number of votes will receive $20,000.

The Sustainable Tourism Award, sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine and Tourism Cares for Tomorrow, is given to a model tourism project that supports the preservation of historic or culturally significant entities. The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is a former immigrant tenement building at 97 Orchard St. and is the only one of its kind preserved despite the country’s rich immigrant history. The museum’s development department said that they would put the $20,000 toward supporting their tours and programs, which served over 123,000 persons last year.
