After her landslide victory on Nov. 8 in the City Council District 2 election, Rosie Mendez, front row third from right, held her victory party at Nice Guy Eddie’s bar on Avenue A. Bars became an issue in the primary election race, when some of her campaign opponents blasted Mendez for taking contributions from David McWater, chairperson of Community Board 3 who owns Nice Guy Eddie’s and several other bars on Avenue A. Mendez — who declined a challenge to take a pledge not to accept contributions from bar owners — responded by calling McWater “a friend who just happens to own bars.”
