ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE IN EFFECT ALL WEEK
Friday is May Day! The first of May is notorious for protest action, and one workers’ rights group will be gathering in Union Square 5 p.m. They’ll march across 14th St. to Avenue C, then down to 10th St. and towards the F.D.R., which means expect slowdowns on the F.D.R. Other likely targets are City Hall, the Brooklyn Bridge and Wall Street.
The Five Boro Bike Tour returns Sunday, and since it begins and ends in Lower Manhattan, there will be plenty of traffic disruptions. Closures begin 4:30 a.m. and continue until 6:30 p.m. on the following streets: Whitehall St. between South and Water Sts., State St. between Whitehall St. and Battery Pl., Battery Pl. between State and West Sts., Washington St. between Battery Pl. and Morris St., Greenwich St. between Battery Park and Trinity Pl., Trinity Pl. between Greenwich and Cedar Sts., Church St. between Cedar and Canal Sts., and White St. between Sixth Ave. and Franklin Pl.
The Walk to End Lupus Now will close Fulton St. between Water and South Sts., South St. between Fulton and Whitehall Sts., Whitehall St. between South and State Sts., and State St. between Water St. and Batter Pl. 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Slow moving for drivers headed into Lower Manhattan Thursday night and going into the weekend. In the Lincoln Tunnel, the New York-bound tube will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. Additionally, the inbound helix (the spiral road leading to the tunnel) will close midnight Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday, and midnight Saturday to noon Sunday. Both of these closures will send inbound traffic to the Holland Tunnel, where one New York-bound lane will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. Traffic will be slow from New Jersey to Canal St.
Over on the East River, all Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. Expect extra traffic on the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges, as well as in the Battery Tunnel. Canal, Delancey, and West Sts. will have more traffic as a result.
The Stone St. Pedestrian Mall will close Stone St. between Broad St. and Hanover Sq., and Mill Ln. between S. William and Stone Sts. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day this week.
On West St./Route 9A, one lane will close in both direction between West Thames and Vesey Sts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
