Transit Sam Week of Dec. 10, 2015

Dates: Thur., Dec. 10 – Wed., Dec. 16

ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE IN EFFECT ALL WEEK

We’re in the middle of the busiest time of the year: from Thanksgiving to New Year, New York welcomes more than five million visitors, and that means gridlock for all.

This Friday and Wednesday are official NYC Gridlock Alert Days, where roads all over the city will be jammed, especially Canal St. near the Manhattan Bridge and Holland Tunnel. The remaining Gridlock Alert days are December 17th, 18th, and 23rd. On these days, the city (and Transit Sam!) advises you to help reduce road congestion by taking mass transit.

The Jets take on the Titans at 1 p.m. Sunday at MetLife Stadium. That’ll make for slowdowns before and after the game in the Lincoln Tunnel, and sending more drivers down to the Holland.

In the Holland Tunnel, one New York-bound and one New Jersey-bound lane will close 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights. That means slowdowns back in New Jersey and again once drivers exit the tunnel near Canal St.

All Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights. That means diversions to the Battery Tunnel (no more weekend-long tube closures!) and the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges.

On West St./Route 9A, from Battery Pl. to Chambers St. one northbound lane will close 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights. One southbound lane, also between Battery Pl. and Chambers St., will close 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights.

In the Battery Park Underpass from West St./Route 9A to FDR Drive, one of two lanes in either tube will close weekdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight causing slowdowns. One tube will fully close weeknights midnight to 5 a.m.

Thames St. between Greenwich St. and Trinity Pl., Fletcher St. between Front and South Sts., and Dutch St. between Fulton and John Sts. will all be closed through the end of December.
