ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING IS IN EFFECT ALL WEEK
As temperatures climb above freezing – looks like 50s for the weekend! – more folks will be out and about on the roads. Airlines should be returning to normal service, as should Metro-North and L.I.R.R. Check mta.info for schedule information.
All Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close midnight on Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, and midnight Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. Inbound traffic will take the Williamsburg and Manhattan bridges, and the Battery Tunnel instead. So: expect slowdowns on Delancey, Canal, and West Sts.
In the Lincoln Tunnel, the New York-bound south tube will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. This will slow down late-night travel back to Lower Manhattan since drivers will head south to the Holland Tunnel and onto Canal St.
On West St./Route 9A, one lane will close in each direction between West Thames and Vesey Sts. 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights, and 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday night.
Rector St. will fully close between West and Washington Sts. 10 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday. Signs will redirect traffic to the eastbound detour route, via J.P. Ward St. one block south of Rector.
Nassau St. will close intermittently between Ann and Beekman Sts. through the end of the month. During the closures, northbound traffic will be rerouted to William St.
Theatre Alley will close 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays through the end of the month.

Dear Transit Sam,
I’ve been trying to find the actual dimension of a bus stop in N.Y.C. after recently being ticketed by a traffic agent for “No Standing Bus Stop.” I obtained some aerial photos of the location where I was cited and was able to determine that I was parked about 70 feet away from the bus stop sign that was also about 20 feet from the nearest intersection. The roughly 70 feet I allowed was plenty of room for two buses to pull in comfortably. How in any legal sense can a $115 fine be levied without knowing the length of a bus stop?

Dear Pat,
Although the length of a bus stop can vary from block to block, there is a well-defined rule that traffic agents use in determining whether or not your vehicle is parked legally. A bus stop begins at the bus stop sign and ends at either the next regulatory sign or the next intersection if there’s no other regulation governing that block. Therefore, some bus stops can take up the entire block if the only regulation posted is the bus stop sign, which is probably what happened in your case.
