ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE SUSPENDED FRIDAY FOR VETERANS DAY
W is for Wow! Lower Manhattanites get their W train back effective this week. The W train, you’ll recall, services Whitehall, Canal, City Hall and all N train stops in Manhattan and Queens. The W runs weekday service from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. During those times, N train will run express. By the way, the Q stops at 57th St. and Sevemnth Ave. and no longer goes into Queens. Soon, though, it will run on the Second Avenue line. I’ll fill you in on those details in a future column. The MTA has released tips for subway riders affected by the W train at: web.mta.info/nyct/service/nqrw.
Happy Veterans Day! Manhattan will take the day to recognize some of America’s bravest women and men in uniform on Friday, closing Broadway between Liberty St. and Battery Pl. in their honor from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Veterans Day Festival.
The Veterans Day Parade, on the other hand, takes place in Midtown, closing Fifth Avenue between 23rd and 52nd Sts. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and the impact will reach Lower Manhattan. Drivers headed across town will cut over at 14th and Houston Sts. as they swap from the Lincoln to the Holland Tunnel. So even if you’re not planning to drive near the procession, expect to face delays below 14th St. nonetheless.
At MetLife Stadium, football takes over as the Jets battle the Los Angeles Rams at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The following night, Monday football returns as the Giants face off against the Cincinnati Bengals at 8:30 p.m. Both games will cause extra traffic at the Holland Tunnel, but look out especially for rush hour jams early on Monday evening as fans head straight from work to the Meadowlands to watch the first Monday-night showdown of the season. Delays could begin as early as 5 p.m. on Monday. Look out also for Manhattan-bound traffic from the stadium post-game, as well, including traffic from the tunnel. As always, Gridlock Sam says transit will be a big time-saver: NJ Transit heads to Secaucus, and from there take the Meadowlands rail line stadium-bound.
The annual NYC Kidney Walk will close Foley Square, Lafayette and Centre Sts. from Worth St. to the Brooklyn Bridge from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
The Whitney Museum Art Party, co-chaired by Common and Karlie Kloss, among others, will bring stars to Gansevoort St. between Tenth Ave. and Washington St. from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. (I wouldn’t be surprised if that meant some TSwift squad members will make an appearance.) The West Village will face some slowdowns as a result.
