Downtowners, don’t head to the Brooklyn Bridge after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday! The Manhattan-bound side will be closed until 6 a.m. on Thursday. Try the Manhattan Bridge.
In the Holland Tunnel, one lane in each direction is closed from 11 p.m. on Wednesday to 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Starting the week of Mon. Oct. 29, one lane in the eastbound tunnel of the Battery Park Underpass (between West Street and F.D.R. Drive) will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturdays until approximately Sat., Nov. 17.
In street closure news, Naussau Street will be closed between John and Fulton Streets from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday. Construction on Chambers Street has reduced it to one-way traffic westbound between Greenwich Street and Broadway; eastbound M22 buses across Chambers Street have been re-routed to Warren Street. Fortunately, westbound M22 bus stops are located outside the construction zone!
Excavation and utility work continues to re-route traffic on the north side of Chambers Street; the following street sections will be closed during daytime hours of 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and overnight from 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday through Friday: the north side of Chambers Street between Greenwich Street and West Broadway; the north side of Chambers Street between Church Street and Broadway; the north side of Chambers Street between Church Street and West Broadway; the northwest corner of the intersection of Chambers and Church Streets; and the northwest corner of the intersection of Chambers Street and West Broadway. You can keep the parking tickets away by bearing in mind that active construction zones means no parking and no standing 24/7 unless noted otherwise.

Dear Transit Sam,
I work with disabled veterans and was trying to assist a veteran who was issued an orange-colored E-ZPass by the New York State Thruway Authority that allows him to be exempt from tolls whenever he utilizes the thruway. He was told that the exemption can extend to the bridges and tunnels as well because the toll is considered a road tax, which he is exempt from due to his disability rating. Can you please provide us with any information you can regarding this matter?

Dear Marc,
I did some digging for you and found that neither the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey or the Metropolitan Transportation Authority have toll exemptions for disabled veteran motorists. Anyone with the orange-colored E-Z Pass who wishes to use his tag on other toll bridges and tunnels must establish a separate revenue account (by filling out Form TA-W5080) to pay the due toll.
