The New York University women’s volleyball team fell to fifth-ranked Wittenberg University 3-2 (34-32, 27-30, 30-20, 28-30, 16-14) at the 2005 N.C.A.A. Division III Women’s Volleyball Quarterfinals at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va., on Nov. 17.

The Violets were ranked fourth in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches’ Association Poll. The seesaw match saw the Tigers win the first and third games, while N.Y.U. took the second and fourth games. But Wittenberg prevailed with an 8-3 run to close out the fifth and deciding frame.

N.Y.U., the New York Regional champion, ended the season with a 35-8 record and a third straight trip to the N.C.A.A. “Elite Eight.”
