Brooklyn detectives are on the hunt for the suspect who shot a 17-year-old boy on Tuesday afternoon in a neighborhood hit hard by gun violence in recent days.

Law enforcement sources said the shooting occurred just after 2:20 p.m. on March 25 near the Hope Gardens apartments, a NYCHA complex at 140 Wilson Ave. in Bushwick.

Officers from the 83rd Precinct arrived on the scene to find the teenage victim shot in the lower back. EMS rushed him to Queens Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police scoured the building’s courtyard throughout the afternoon Tuesday and recovered at least one shell casing.

It was the second shooting to rock Bushwick in less than a week. On March 19, two men were shot and wounded down near 327 Wilson Ave., a short distance from the scene of Tuesday’s shooting.

EMS rushed both victims to local hospitals. One of the wounded men, aged 25, was listed in critical condition.

At this point, police do not yet know if Tuesday’s shooting is connected to last week’s gun violence.

The 83rd Precinct, meanwhile, has reported four shootings with five victims year-to-date through March 23, according to the most recent CompStat report. There were no shootings at all at the same point in 2024. It’s an unusual trend for the command, considering the NYPD reported a 30.46% overall crime decrease year-to-date in the precinct’s confines.

So far, no arrests have been made in Tuesday’s shooting, police reported.
