Chelsea home that inspired ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ for sale

The Manhattan home that inspired the classic poem “‘Twas the night before Christmas” is on the market.

Currently priced at $8.65 million, the townhouse sits on West 22nd Street in Chelsea. It was built in 1841 and owned by Clement Clarke Moore, the poet who wrote the famous Christmas tale.

The three-story house is described as a pre-war building with “Greek-revival style plaster moldings and medallions, four marble fireplaces and inlaid parquet wood flooring.”

There are two studio apartments on the ground floor, and the second and third floors each have two bedroom suites, the real estate firm Leslie J. Garfield said. It also has a basement and patio. There are a total of seven bedrooms and six bathrooms.

“It is rare to find a property with such pedigree and history,” Matthew Lesser, partner at Leslie J. Garfield said in a statement. “The opportunity to convert this property from three properties to one family home is covetable.”
