It’s the end of an era for New York Rangers television broadcasts.
Joe Micheletti, the Rangers’ analyst for MSG Networks, is retiring after 19 seasons in the role, the network announced Thursday. Micheletti has worked alongside the Rangers’ recently-retired play-by-play announcer, Sam Rosen, since 2006.
In a press release posted by MSG Networks on Thursday, Micheletti said that he and his wife Kathy had been thinking about the decision to retire for years.

“We decided that now is the right time to retire,” said Micheletti. “We look forward to spending more time with our family. This career has been so special because of the amazing people I’ve worked with at every stop along the way.”
Micheletti, 70, played in the National Hockey League for three seasons with the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Rockies from 1979 to 1982. He began his broadcasting career with the Blues’ radio crew in 1985. After a stint behind the bench as the club’s assistant coach, he worked as a TV analyst for the Minnesota North Stars and the Blues.
“Joe’s experience as a player and coach, his good humor, his unparalleled preparation, his polished on-air skills, and his love of hockey combined to make him one of the hockey world’s premier analysts,” said Andrea Greenberg, MSG Networks’ president and CEO.
Micheletti joined MSG Networks in 1998 as the TV analyst for the New York Islanders. In his broadcast career, he’s worked five Winter Olympics, 25 Stanley Cup Finals and 15 NHL All-Star games.
In a statement released by the club, Rangers’ president and general manager Chris Drury congratulated Micheletti on his near-two-decade career in the Rangers’ booth.
“Throughout the time I was around Joe, either as a player or in a front office role, his knowledge of the game was only matched by his class and professionalism,” said Drury.
