Ray Shero was named general manager of the New Jersey Devils, the team announced Monday.
Lou Lamoriello, who led the Devils to three Stanley Cups and five Eastern Conference titles as GM, will continue as the team’s president, a position he has held for 28 years.
“Ray is well-respected throughout the hockey industry and knows what it takes to win,” said Lamoriello. “His 22 seasons of NHL front-office experience will be beneficial to the New Jersey Devils organization. I look forward to working alongside Ray.”
Shero, 52, spent eight seasons as executive vice president and GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins before being let go after the 2013-14 NHL season. In his time there, the Penguins had a .645 winning percentage and won the 2009 Stanley Cuo.
Before joining the Penguins, Shero spent 14 seasons as an assistant GM with Ottawa (1993-98) and Nashville (1998-2006).
