Lupo Rosso in Long Island City brings modern flavors to authentic Italian pizza

With a bright red and black sign above the shop, there’s no mistaking Lupo Rosso.

After a rough start due to the pandemic, Lupo Rosso opened its doors in Long Island City in 2021. Owner Steve Menna, who also owns Tufino Pizzeria Napoletana in East Meadow, chose LIC because there wasn’t a pizza place quite like Lupo Rosso in the area yet.

The shop maintains the highest standards in Neopolitan authenticity, and the pizza gets its unique flavor from Lupo Rosso’s custom Stefano Ferrara wood-burning oven, which was hand-built in Naples, Italy using volcanic lava ash from Mt. Vesuvius.

In honor of National Pizza Day on Feb. 9, Kenny Bollwerk met with Menna to talk about Lupo Rosso.
