Most Valuable Promotions is running its all-women’s boxing card at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 11. The event will be headlined by the third installment of Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s rivalry, with Taylor’s undisputed lightweight title on the line.
The two previous installments of their history saw Taylor emerge victorious both times. Their series began on April 30, 2022, at MSG as Taylor defended her title against Serrano. The fight, named Sports Illustrated’s “Fight of the Year,” saw Taylor victorious by way of split decision. She earned the win from two judges on 97-93 and 96-93 scores, with Serrano earning a 96-94 call from the third.
The two sides were apart until Nov. 15, 2024, when the lightweight title was once again defended. In a narrow, 10-round matchup, Taylor once again retained her crown, earning 95-94 decisions from all three judges. The decision was controversial to viewers, as Taylor laid headbutts which left a cut on the head of the challenger. Taylor was warned and received a point reduction, but still managed to pull out the win.
In addition to Taylor-Serrano, seven other matches will be contested at the event. In preliminaries, Tamm Thibeault will face Mary Casamassa, and Cherneka Johnson will meet Shurretta Metcalf in a match for the unified bantamweight title.
Five more titles will be on the line during the main card, with six total matches on the show. Additional matches are as follows:
- Ramla Ali vs. Lila Furtado
- Alycia Baumgardner vs. Jennifer Miranda: undisputed super featherweight championship bout
- Savannah Marshall vs. Shadasia Green: unified super middleweight title bout
- Ellie Scotty vs. Yamileth Mercado: unified super bantamweight title bout
- Chantelle Cameron vs. Jessica Camara: World Boxing Council interim super lightweight championship bout
The night’s action kicks off at 6 p.m. ET with the preliminary bouts. The main card starts at 7:00 p.m. with the main event scheduled for 9:40 p.m. All the action can be found exclusively on Netflix.
