NYC ice skating rinks: Where to lace up

As winter weather blows in, it's time to lace up the skates and test those blades of glory.

Fortunately, NYC is home to plenty of places to skate, old and new, that make this cold weather activity a welcome tradition.

Wollman Rink, Central Park

Skate with the Manhattan skyline behind you at Wollman Rink in Central Park, at 63rd Street. It's open through April 2, 2017.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays to Tuesdays; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesdays to Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays to Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays

Cost: $12 adults ($19 Fridays to Sundays and holidays), $6 ages 11 and younger; $9 skate rental

The Rink at Bryant Park

An impressive collection of shops surrounds this free ice rink in the middle of midtown, between 40th and 42nd streets and Fifth and Sixth avenues. Shop for your holiday gift needs, sample some local fare and work on those triple salchows in time for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Hours: The rink is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. until March 5, 2017.

Cost: free; $20 for skate rentals. If you want to skip the line you can purchase a FastPass for $28 per person.

Lasker Rink, Central Park

At the northernmost end of Central Park, near the entrance at 110th Street and Lenox Avenue, sits Lasker Rink, the lesser-known of the park's two ice skating venues.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. and 6 to 11 p.m. Fridays; 1 to 11 p.m. Saturdays; 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays; open through March 19, 2017

Cost: $8 adults, $4 children, $7 skate rentals; cash only

The Rink at Rockefeller Center

This rink, just steps from NBC's studios and the Rockettes, offers several seasonal activities, including breakfast with Santa. Sip a hot chocolate and sit underneath the famed giant Christmas tree -- it goes up on Nov. 30 -- for a truly New York experience.

Hours: 7 days per week from 8:30 a.m. to midnight

Cost: $25 - $32 for adults, depending on the time of year; $15 for children under 11 years old and seniors; skate rentals $12

LeFrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park

In Propect Park, near the Parkside and Ocean Avenue entrance, LeFrak Center at Lakeside consists of two open-air, connected rinks, and is open through March 26, 2017.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; 11:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Sunday

World Ice Arena, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

The World Ice Arena, located at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens at Avery Avenue and 131st Street, is open all year long.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and 7 to 9:50 p.m. Fridays, noon to 4:45 p.m. and 8 to 9:50 p.m. Saturdays, noon to 4:45 p.m. Sundays
