There is no evidence that takeout or drive-thru meals will increase illness, according to the North Carolina State University Food Safety Team. Food delivery helps maintain social distancing and reduces the number of touchpoints between the preparation and serving of food. Many delivery programs have also instituted no interaction options, which further reduces risk.

“We strongly encourage you to call the restaurant directly or visit them for takeout if possible, as third party delivery services often charge high fees on restaurants,” according to the NoHo BID website. “It’s important to note that delivery and takeout is completely safe to consume.”
