Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn to open on Gold Street this summer

Alamo Drafthouse, the movie theater chain that offers food, cocktails, themed movie screenings and is known for a strict “no talking, no texting” policy, is making its New York City debut this summer in Downtown Brooklyn.

The Austin-based company announced Tuesday that construction of its location at 445 Gold St. is in its final phase and will be ready to start screening 35 mm and digital films in time for the summer blockbuster season. Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League said the theater will show big hits, past and present, as well as independent films that showcase the city.

“The impact on film from this region is indelible and expansive. Hopefully we can add to that rich fabric and give fans, new and old, a place to honor the joy of cinema,” he said in a statement.

There’s no word yet on what menu and cocktail items will be offered, but the chain said the theater will be stocked with locally-brewed beers.

Alamo Drafthouse will feature its popular themed screenings such as “Terror Tuesday,” “Video Vortex” and “Girlie Night,” and it will also “champion the distinct tastes of Brooklyn and New York audiences” through special programming.
