Brie Larson, Alex Greenwald engaged, report says

Brie Larson, the most recent Academy Award-winning best actress, for her performance in last year’s “Room,” has become engaged to musician Alex Greenwald.

A representative for Larson, 26, confirmed the proposal to Us Weekly, the magazine said Monday.

Greenwald, whom Us said proposed during a Tokyo trip in March, has attended several awards show with Larson this year, including the Academy Awards, where she thanked him in her acceptance speech. She first did so in 2013 in her speech accepting the Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Actress, for “Short Term 12.”

Greenwald, primarily known for the band Phantom Planet, has written songs performed on the soundtracks of TV shows including “Chuck,” “Gossip Girl” and “The O.C.,” and such movies as “No Strings Attached” (2011) and “The Amazing Spider-Man” (2012). Larson, who played the sister of Amy Schumer’s character in “Trainwreck” last year, starred as daughter Kate Gregson on Showtime’s “United States of Tara” (2009-2011).
