Confirming rumors that began in April when she postponed a concern tour over an unexplained “sudden change,” singer Janet Jackson has announced she is pregnant at age 50.
“We thank God for our blessing,” Jackson says in the new issue of People magazine, alongside photos of her expectant self. This would be her first child.
In a Twitter video posted April 6, the singer, part of the Jackson musical clan and sister of late superstar Michael Jackson, announced there had been “a sudden change” that would cause her to suspend her “Unbreakable World Tour,” which began in August 2015.
“I thought it was important that you be the first to know,” she told fans in the video. “My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour. Please, if you could try and understand that it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders.”
Jackson wed Wissam Al Mana — a Qatari businessman whose Al Mana Group represents numerous luxury brands and has investments in media, real estate and other industries — in 2012 but kept the marriage, her third, unrevealed until the following year.
People said Wednesday that Jackson has been seen shopping for infant merchandise at London’s Back in Action furniture store.
