MTV is gearing up for the Video Music Awards (VMAs) with a block party this weekend in New York City.
This year, the VMAs will air live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Tuesday, Sept. 12. On Sept. 9, MTV will take over Oculus Plaza with an unforgettable party that is free for all ages to get the excitement going for this year’s show.
The festival will be hosted by MTV’s Dometi Pongo and WCBS’ Alecia Reid and will feature performances from artists such as Amaarae, Alexander Stewart and rising pop star Jenna Raine, as well as sets from DJ CherishTheLuv. Those who attend can take part in multiple pop-up activations, including The Rolling Stones x MTV Pop-Up Shop, where guests can shop the MTV x The Rolling Stones apparel collaboration, the MTV VMA Free Swag Station, and the Mr. Flower Fantastic MTV Topiary Moon Person.
Photo ops for those Instagrammable moments will be available as well, with options such as the MTV VMA Moon Person Photo Opp and the BK® Whopper Whopper Remix Photo Opper.
Additionally, MTV will be hosting an interactive public art activation as a part of “Mental Health is Health.” Attendees will be able to learn about A.S.K. — Acknowledge, Support, and Keep-in-touch — to help their friends through emotional challenges, as well as interact with an art installation by Katrina Sánchez, friendship bracelet making, and giveaways.
The fun doesn’t stop at the activations. A game zone with yard games such as mini golf and cornhole will be open all day, and food and beverages will be available for purchase from participating food trucks as well as the Block Party Beer Garden.
The party will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. at Oculus Plaza, located at 185 Greenwich St. in Lower Manhattan. For up-to-date information, follow @MTV and @VMAs across social platforms.
