Acclaimed singer Wendy Moten will join the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) for a special gala and concert in New York City this spring.

YPC’s annual gala, Raising Voices: In the Key of Love, will take place on May 9. Moten will perform several songs, both solo and with nearly 500 young singers, while accompanied by a 28-piece orchestra.

“My passion for music began when I sang in choir as a child,” said Moten. “Those early experiences instilled a sense of confidence and belonging that has never left me. When I listen to YPC’s young choristers perform, I am reminded of my younger self. I want to show them that with dedication and drive, they too can achieve their dreams.”

Moten sang R&B in the 90s and spent 15 years performing as the duet partner for Julio Iglesias. She has recorded duets with Michael McDonald, Kirk Whalum, Joe Bonamassa and John Oates and toured with Martina McBride, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, and Vince Gill, and has performed as a soloist on the Grand Ole Opry several times, eventually landing herself as a featured artist in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Musician Spotlight series. In 2019, Moten joined the Grammy-winning Nashville western swing band The Time Jumpers and in 2021 she became a fan favorite and finalist on the hit NBC series The Voice

“Wendy Moten is a true talent and an inspiration for our young choristers. We couldn’t be more excited to present an outstanding concert in celebration of our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Francisco J. Núñez “Together, we intend to create a fantastic evening that ultimately brings awareness to YPC’s mission and the positive, lifetime impact it can make on children of all backgrounds.”

The gala concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, with dinner following the concert. All proceeds from the evening will go to support YPC programs including its Performance Choruses, Schools Choruses, Community Choruses and College Bound Program.
