Thursday nights now belong to Harlem.
Starting this month, the Uptown Night Market will now run weekly every Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m. at 12th Avenue and West 131st Street.
“Harlem deserves what the rest of NYC already has — a weekly space to celebrate who we are,” says Marco Shalma, founder of the Uptown Night Market and MASC Hospitality Group. “Thursdays are now our day. Harlem owns it.”
The Uptown Night Market initially launched in 2021 as a monthly event and quickly became a staple in the Harlem community. Each week, 40+ local vendors—including POC, immigrant, and women-owned food and retail businesses— will sell delicious plates ranging from birria tacos to Caribbean plates and artisan pastries. There will also be vendors selling handmade crafts, Live DJs, Afro-Latin bands, and surprise performances.
The expansion to a weekly format was made possible with support from Columbia University, which donated the event space, as well as West Harlem Development Corporation, NMDP, Community Board 9, and the NYPD’s 26th and 30th precincts.
“This isn’t a pop-up,” Shalma adds. “It’s a movement. It’s Harlem showing the city what consistent community-powered culture really looks like.”
