Tina Knowles, mother of music star Beyoncé, responded on Monday to the social-media backlash that occurred after she misspoke at the BET Awards on Sunday while accepting an award for her daughter.
“First of all, I did make a mistake on the city and the day,” Knowles, wrote in one of two lengthy Instagram posts. During the acceptance speech, Knowles said that Beyoncé “had to run straight from the stage and get on the plane and fly to London for a concert.” In actuality, the concert was set for Sunderland in northeast England yesterday.
“I asked why did she have to leave early and was told by a member of her staff that ‘she had to get back in time for her concert’ and that she actually should have been there 2 days before,” adding, “I assumed the date was Monday and the city was London.”
She concluded a second post by saying “You guys are soo sweet and understand please! I know I owe no one an explanation this is for me not anyone else.”
